24. Triennale Milano International Exhibition

Research Assistant Bilge Can, a faculty member of the Faculty of Architecture at Yıldız Technical University, achieved notable international recognition through participation in the 24th Triennale Milano, one of the world's most prestigious architecture and design exhibitions. As part of the international exhibition themed “Inequalities,” Can contributed to the exhibition “We the Bacteria: Notes Toward Biotic Architecture,” curated by Beatriz Colomina and Mark Wigley. Within the exhibition, Can served as a member of the working group for SPIKA, an installation designed by Prof. Dr. Rachel Armstrong and her team. Inspired by the form of a bacteriophage, SPIKA explores the potential of architecture at the microbial scale through microbial hydroponic systems, where wastewater is recycled and beneficial bacteria support plant growth. By prioritizing biotic cycles instead of chemical fertilizers, the installation highlights symbiotic relationships between living systems and the built environment, offering an innovative perspective on the future of sustainable architecture and ecological design.
