Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selin Yıldız, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture, leads the TÜBİTAK 1001 – Republic’s 100th Year Special Call project titled
“Experiencing the Urban Space Through Cognitive Mapping: A Play-Based Exploration Route for Children.”
The project aims to foster children’s environmental and spatial awareness through an interactive, game-based mobile application that encourages them to explore and learn about urban environments such as Beşiktaş, Istanbul.
By integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with cognitive mapping, the study develops flexible exploration routes that enhance children’s independent decision-making, environmental sensitivity, and peer learning skills.
