YTU Chemistry Technologies Club (KİMTEK) launched a year-long social responsibility campaign entitled “Collect Caps, Overcome Barriers”, which combined environmental sustainability with social impact.Throughout the year, students collected plastic bottle caps across campus and delivered them to the Turkish Spinal Cord Paralytics Association. The income generated from recycling these caps was used to provide manual wheelchairs for individuals with disabilities, with approximately 450 kilograms of plastic caps equating to one wheelchair.
This initiative not only reduced plastic waste and promoted responsible consumption and recycling practices, but also advanced social inclusion and equality by directly improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. Moreover, by enabling greater mobility and independence for beneficiaries, the campaign contributed to well-being and health outcomes.
