The “Disaster Awareness Summit ’24” was organized on 25 April 2024 at Yıldız Technical University with the theme “Rebirth After February 6.” As the first edition of this large-scale summit, the event brought together experts, practitioners, and students to explore multiple dimensions of disaster resilience, recovery, and preparedness.
The program included keynote speeches, panels, and workshops addressing psychosocial resilience, post-disaster reconstruction, community solidarity, and cultural heritage in disaster recovery. Workshops were conducted in collaboration with national and local partners, such as AFAD’s Earthquake Simulation Vehicle and Esenler Municipality Search and Rescue Team (ESKAT), providing participants with practical, hands-on experiences.
The summit created a platform for dialogue on risk reduction, safety, and community responsibility, helping students and participants better understand disaster management and preparedness strategies.
Sessions featured contributions from leading academics, practitioners, and organizations, covering topics including:
- Psychosocial support and resilience in disasters
- Post-disaster construction and innovative methods
- Community solidarity and volunteerism in disaster response
- Cultural heritage as a driving force for post-trauma healing
