Inspiring Data-Driven Careers: Insights from Practicus AI’s Mehmet Talha Şahin

The Talk Data to Me session explored how individuals from non-technical or social science backgrounds can successfully transition into the data science and machine learning (ML) fields. Conducted by Mehmet Talha Şahin, an AI/ML Solutions Architect at Practicus AI, the event offered an accessible and motivational perspective on building a data-driven career.

Topics included:

  • Understanding the foundations of data science and artificial intelligence,
  • Practical steps for developing technical competence without a traditional STEM background,
  • Recommended educational resources, online platforms, and self-learning strategies,
  • Real-world examples of interdisciplinary applications of AI and ML across industries.

This talk empowered students and professionals from diverse academic disciplines to engage with emerging data technologies, breaking down the misconception that data science is exclusive to computer scientists or engineers. Participants gained awareness of upskilling pathways, enabling a broader participation in the digital economy and promoting inclusive access to AI education.

The session contributed to digital literacy, employability, and interdisciplinary innovation, aligning with YTU’s vision of fostering an inclusive and adaptive academic ecosystem responsive to technological transformation.
