Through its active participation in national scientific expeditions conducted under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye and coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Yıldız Technical University plays a leading role in global environmental research. Within this framework, a research project developed by Prof. Dr. Sezgin Bakırdere from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was launched to investigate the ecological status of Antarctica. The study, entitled “Highly Accurate and Sensitive Determination of Trace Levels of Inorganic and Organic Pollutants in Penguin/Seal Feces and Ocean Water Samples from the Antarctic Region,” focuses on monitoring environmental contaminants in one of the world's most fragile ecosystems. As part of the project, researcher Dr. Buse Tuğba Zaman joined the National Antarctic Scientific Expedition to represent Yıldız Technical University and conduct field-based environmental analyses. The research is expected to contribute to global knowledge on pollution monitoring, ecosystem health, and environmental sustainability in polar regions.
