The launch meeting of the “Plant Guides Project,” implemented through the collaboration of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Yıldız Technical University, was held on 18 April 2025 at the Otağ-ı Hümayun Hall of YTU’s Davutpaşa Campus. Hosted by Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik and attended by Deputy Minister Fatma Varank, the event introduced a national initiative aimed at preserving the ecological identity of cities while promoting climate-resilient, sustainable, and environmentally compatible urban development. Coordinated by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Var from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, the project brings together 55 researchers from 24 universities across Türkiye. The initiative focuses on preparing comprehensive plant selection guides tailored to the local ecological conditions of each of Türkiye’s 81 provinces. To date, guides for 22 provinces have been completed, and the project aims to publish a full collection of 81 provincial guidebooks by the end of 2025, providing scientifically grounded recommendations for sustainable urban landscaping, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation strategies.
