“Sancak Mansion Reopens After Restoration, Revitalizing Ottoman Heritage on YTU’s Davutpaşa Campus”

In early 2024, the meticulously restored Sancak Mansion (Sancak Köşkü) on Yıldız Technical University’s Davutpaşa Campus was reopened following a three-year restoration project, led by Istanbul Governorship with significant contributions from YTU faculty experts in conservation, restitution, and architectural recording. Originally built in the 16th century by Grand Vizier Davut Pasha to safeguard the Ottoman banner, the mansion regained its historical prominence and now stands as a successful example of heritage revitalisation within an educational setting. At the inauguration ceremony, YTU Rector highlighted the importance of preserving heritage as a foundation for developing a sustainable campus environment, and underlined that respect for historical monuments is essential, even at a technical university—a sentiment embodied by the architectural and cultural integration of this landmark. The event also featured exhibitions of calligraphy and illumination created by faculty and students of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
