Yıldız Technical University Develops World’s First Human-Compatible Heart Valve from Sheep Tissue”

Researchers from Yıldız Technical University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering have successfully developed the world’s first human-compatible heart valve produced from decellularized sheep tissue.
This innovation offers a safer and more sustainable alternative to conventional mechanical and porcine-derived bioprosthetic valves, addressing the risk of viral transmission associated with existing methods.
The project represents a milestone in biomedical innovation and demonstrates YTU’s contribution to advancing human health, medical technology, and sustainable biomaterial use. It also reflects Türkiye’s growing capacity for developing indigenous and globally competitive biomedical solutions.
