A NEW GATE ASSIGNMENT POLICY AND THE EFFECT OF GATE OCCUPANCY TIME ON THE LEVEL OF SERVICE AT AIRPORT TERMINALS

Abstract

Gate assignment is an important subject in air transportation management. Also gate occupancy time of airplanes which depend not only on the technical issues but also on the service quality of airports is the subject of many studies. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between occupancy times and level of service (LOS) at baggage claim area and offer a new gate assignment policy. A case study is performed to test the validity of the models. With the proposed assignment policy and by decreasing the occupancy times, better LOS are achieved at the baggage reclaim area.
