Abstract
This chapter adopts a wide perspective in electric vehicle technologies and thermal management systems with the focus on their challenges, emerging technologies and potential thermal management systems (TMS). Since the energy densities of the electric batteries are significantly lower than that of the gasoline, wireless power transfer is crucial in the widespread commercialization of electrical vehicles (EVs) in the market as it provides a safe and convenient way of charging the vehicle. The chapter provides a brief introduction of various thermal management systems that are developed to be used in a wide range of applications, ranging from microprocessor and nuclear reactors to space shuttles. Magnocolaric effect (MCE) increases the temperature of certain materials, with magnocaloric properties, when being exposed to magnetic field and decreases when it is no longer applied. The high cost of the electric battery is still one of the largest impediments to the proliferation of EVs into the vehiclemarket.
