Abstract
A piled breakwater has been proposed for environmentally friendly coastal protection. An experimental study has been carried out to investigate its performance. It has been found that four different configurations of piled breakwaters have been successful in decreasing wave energy by magnifying the turbulence inside them. The transmission coefficient can be reduced to a reasonable level. The performance of piled breakwaters is higher in storm wave conditions, the transmission coefficient being almost constant except for the long wave conditions.
