Abstract
Therealization of women and dealing with their problems in Turkish literature starts with the beginning of Tanzimat. However, the process of intensive examining of this issue in different aspectsgoes to the end of the 1970’s. The women who are born in the in the early yearsof the Republic and receive education by taking advantage of the opportunitiesoffered by the new system begin to move into the literary world. Therefore, thewoman issue in Turkey occurs in the work of arts and is studied in differentaspects. Examining women who are castaway as second sex and their problems, authors discuss women'sindividualization process rather than displaying them merely as a wife ormother. In this context, in Cemo, examined in this article, the woman issue isnot directly handled but it is indirectly pointed out with other socialproblems of the period. Sheikh Said rebellions and the subsequent Dersim Eventstake place in the background of the novel one thing that is pointed out in thenovel is that reforms and changes brought by the Republic did notreach every region of Anatolia and the other thing that is emphasizedis the social problems coming with that fact.Especially, it can be criticizedas to how the landlordism-slavery system in that period neglected the woman'sattempt to exist in the patriarchal society.
