Abstract

In this study, performances of optical networks are analyzed by considering their working principles. The factors that cause data losses in a system are examined and the power losses are determined. The reasons of data losses in optical fibers are explained and discussed. The functions of optical directional couplers and optical fiber sensors in networks are given. Data transmission through the circuit elements are explained and the losses are analyzed. Important issues that should be considered during the design and manufacturing of optical networks are emphasized.
