Abstract
Social media is a platform used by many people in today's world and produces huge data every day. It becomes very important to obtain more meaningful results by processing the data obtained from this platform. With developing technologies, terrorist organizations also follow this change and improve their tactics. Nowadays, terrorist organizations use social media for various reasons such as making propaganda for the organization through social media, recruiting personnel by spreading the organization's ideology, and providing financial support for the organization's actions. Social media intelligence obtained from these social media platforms is very important for law enforcement forces. However, traditional methods are not sufficient for the analysis of increasing data. This article aims to demonstrate that social media intelligence studies on terrorism issues can be carried out faster, cheaper and more effectively by using machine learning methods. While doing this, both machine learning methods, studies carried out with these methods, and what kind of analyzes can be done from social media are presented comparatively. As a result of the article, it was concluded that machine learning techniques were not used in social media intelligence studies on terrorism issues in the Turkish literature, the operations carried out in the studies were carried out either manually or through software programs, but the increasing data density, machine learning and using software language were very important for more comprehensive and more meaningful results.
