Abstract

In industrial applications, it is seen that shapes of various sizes are created on sheet metal sheets in order to increase aesthetic appearance and mechanical properties. Sheet metal forming technique is a widely used method for creating patterns on sheet metal. However, if a suitable method is not chosen during the creation of the shapes and the process parameters are not optimized, it is seen that the patterns on the sheet metal plates are not formed in the desired size and quality (deformations such as abrasion, scratching on the sheet surfaces). This situation affects customer satisfaction negatively. It is seen that rubber pad punches are used in order to eliminate the deformation errors that occur on the sheet metal plates. However, it is necessary to optimize all process parameters such as punch pressure, rubber pad hardness, rubber pad thickness in order to create patterns on sheet metal sheets in desired sizes using rubber pad punches. In this study, it is on the optimization of the process parameters to create patterns in various shapes using rubber pads on Aluminum and Dkp steel plates, which are widely used in the industry, and to create the patterns in desired dimensions. At the end of the study, it was seen that the most effective factor in forming the patterns on the sheet metal plates was the punch pressure, followed by the pad punch thickness, the pattern angle and the material type, respectively. On the other hand, it was determined that the rubber pad punch hardness and material thickness did not have a significant effect. However, at the end of the study, a linear equation was put forward for the formation of the patterns to the desired extent by using the Taguchi approach.
