Abstract

In designing WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) systems, it is required that gain flattening must not be ignored. In this work, it is ensured that a Raman amplifier provides flat gain in a wide band, by analysis. The effects of the wavelength and the power of the pump laser on the gain flattening of a Raman amplifier are investigated. Using a mechanism prepared by the simulation program OptiSystem 7.0, flat gain with 0.1 dB fluctuations is obtained in the bandwidth of 71 nm.
