Abstract
Climate and climate change is one of the important issues that students may encounter in their education life. The issue of climate spreads over a wide range of interdisciplinary features, which are related to natural sciences as well as social sciences. Acquiring climate literacy skills based on understanding the climate Marked set by pc and climate change is to have critical skills and knowledge that affect the individual’s relationship with the environment, his understanding of scientific knowledge or the decisions he will make. The fact that climate literacy has become an issue that is gaining importance day by day reveals the need for individuals to gain climate literacy skills. Therefore, it is necessary to provide students with climate literacy skills and to make students understand the scientific foundationsof climate. In this context, in this study, it is aimed to reveal students’ self-perception levels regarding climate and climate literacy. Based on this purpose, the sample of the research consists of a total of 300 students studying at the seventh and eighth grade levels in Istanbul in the 2019-2020 academic year. The research was carried out with the screening model, which is one of the quantitative research methods.In the questionnaire, which was determined as a data collection tool in the research, self-perception questions about climate and climate literacy were included. The questionnaire form, which was examined by expert lecturers in the field and controlledin terms of language expression, was applied face-to-face to the determined secondary school students. The data obtained after the application were analyzed with a statistical program. Frequency and percentage values of the data were calculated. It was analyzed with the help of cross tables and chi-square test. As a result of the research, it has been revealed that the students get the most information about climate from the internet and school environments and they do not participate in any climate-oriented activities. It was determined that the students were somewhat knowledgeable about climate. Suggestions were made in line with the results obtained from the research.
