Abstract

Pollution in water resources has become a growing and difficult to deal with worldwide concern due to rapid civilization and industrialization. Oily wastewater emerges as a global environmental problem that needs to be addressed; it is a menace as it is increasingly diffused by industry and activities of daily living. Unfortunately, oil spill crashes occur often, both offshore and on earth. While these disasters can happen during operation, shipping, use, and storage, oily wastewater is also an important issue for some sectors such as the chemical production sector, manufacturing, crude oil and their refineries, mineral oil production, textile, and nutrition. Treatment of oily wastewater with traditional treatment methods has been tried for more than half a century. Oily wastewater treatment technology, which must meet aquatic environment standards, is still requiring a lot of energy and requires a large amount of operating and setup costs. The treatment technology should be environmentally friendly, that is, the materials used during treatment must be disposed of when their useful life is over, and the wastes generated as a result of treatment do not pose a problem to the environment. In addition, extending the service life of these materials used in treatment is among the issues studied.
