Plastic Arts in Modern Balkan Geography & Actual Perspectives of Balkan Art Museums

Abstract

Located in the south of Europe, the Balkan geography is on the transit routes connecting the continent to Asia. Having such distinct feature, the Balkans, geostrategic value of which was rediscovered during the political polarization in the cold war era, witnessed many military invasions in the 20th century. However, those aggressions have not prevented the artistic development of the people of the countries such as the Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Greece and Croatia. These countries adapted to the updated aesthetic sense in the century left behind and was represented on international art platforms, even on individual scales. In the present study, through the field researches on the region, the current state of plastic arts in the Balkan countries and the viewpoints of national art museums there on contemporary artworks is dealt with.
