Abstract

Interior Permanent Magnet machine (IPM) has several advantages such as high power density and wide constant power speed ratio, therefore, it is very popular in electric and hybrid automotive industry. In this paper, a MEC of IPM is obtained including stator slots. In order to reduce MEC, a mathematical polynomial is used to represent the relationship between magnetomotive force (MMF) and flux. The polynomial is derived from the nonlinear magnetic behavior of the core material using machine geometry. Finally, nonlinear reluctances in the same flux path can be combined into an equation thus, the number of nonlinear equations and computation time are reduced.
