THE OBSERVATIONAL FINDINGS BEFORE THE GREAT EARTHQUAKES OF DECEMBER 2004 AND THE MECHANISM EXTRACTION FROM ASSOCIATED ELECTROMAGNETIC PHENOMENA

T. Şengör YTU

Abstract

Some experimental results related with great earthquakes in December 2004 are reported in this paper. These experiments are about the results of electromagnetic effects generated by coupling between earth and atmosphere. The extracting the mechanisms of these great earthquakes from the electromagnetic coupling effects is studied. These effects, which are impressively addressing an earthquake activity very greater than a major earthquake, are detected during 5 days without interruptions beginning on October 11 and ending on October 15. These are related to earthquakes below: north of Macquarie Island earthquake with magnitude 8.1 on December 23, 2004 and off the west coast of Northern Sumatra earthquake with magnitude 9.0 on December 26, 2004. The extraction mechanism is generating samples of these two great earthquakes at some specific locations.
