Abstract
Cavitating marine propeller is one of the most dominant noise sources inmarine vessels.  The aim of this study isto examine the cavitating propeller noise induced by tip vortices for twinscrew passenger vessels. To determine the noise level inboard, tip vortex index(TVI) technique has been used. This technique is an approximate method based onnumerical and experimental data. In this study, it is aimed to predict theunderwater noise of a marine propeller by applying TVI technique for two bladedand three bladed propellers. The hydrodynamic performance of cavitatingpropeller has been calculated by a potential flow code based on lifting surfacemethod. The effect of cavitation number and propeller rotation speed on soundpressure level has been discussed.
