Sustainable Mobility on Campus
Yıldız Technical University is taking decisive steps toward decarbonizing its campuses by minimizing or neutralizing carbon emissions across all operations. With a strong focus on sustainable development and environmental responsibility, YTU integrates climate-conscious practices into every aspect of campus life.
To promote ecological mobility, the university has developed an extensive pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly infrastructure. Safe walking routes, a well-connected network of bicycle lanes, a bike-sharing system, and regularly maintained bicycle parking areas make low-emission commuting both practical and appealing.
Additionally, the growing use of electric scooters by staff and the availability of shared scooter options for students and campus residents have made daily transportation more flexible, efficient, and environmentally friendly — all while reducing the university’s overall carbon footprint.
Connectivity between campuses is also a key focus. The regular shuttle services linking the Yıldız and Davutpaşa campuses, as well as nearby metrobus and metro lines, provide convenient, low-emission alternatives to private vehicles. Furthermore, dedicated staff shuttle routes from major residential areas to the campuses help decrease single-occupancy car use, cutting both emissions and traffic congestion.
By encouraging the use of public transportation, promoting shared and active mobility options, and embedding sustainability into its transportation policy, YTU continues to reduce automobile dependency and foster a culture of sustainable travel within its community.
Through these collective efforts, Yıldız Technical University not only advances its decarbonization goals but also sets a strong example for other institutions striving to build greener, cleaner, and more connected campuses for the future.
Sustainable Campus Life and Micromobility
As universities increasingly commit to sustainability, campus life is being reshaped through environmentally friendly practices and innovative transportation solutions. One key element of this transformation is the integration of micromobility options such as electric scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes. These lightweight, energy-efficient vehicles offer a practical solution for short-distance travel within campus, reducing the reliance on cars and minimizing carbon emissions. By promoting micromobility, universities not only lower their environmental impact but also enhance the daily experience of students and staff by providing faster, healthier, and more flexible transportation alternatives. In combination with green infrastructure, waste reduction initiatives, and energy-saving technologies, micromobility plays a vital role in building a sustainable and livable campus environment.
