Science in Action: YTU’s Open-Air Festival Showcases Chemistry, Sustainability, and Everyday Innovation
On 8 May 2024, annual Science Festival (Bilim Şenliği) brought together students, academics, and industry representatives in a dynamic open-air setting at the Davutpaşa Campus, featuring interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and networking opportunities. The event aimed to foster scientific curiosity, practical learning, and collaboration across disciplines, while also raising awareness of sustainability and innovation in everyday applications.
Workshops and Activities
Roll-On Perfume Workshop (Miss Valerie Organic Beauty): Participants learned about natural ingredients and sustainable approaches to cosmetic formulation, while creating their own personalized roll-on perfumes.
Atıksız Mutfak ve Mikrofiliz Atölyesi (EkBiçYeİç): A hands-on session led by a dietitian and pastry chef introduced participants to zero-waste cooking practices and the nutritional benefits of microgreens, aligning with sustainable food systems.
Micellar Face Cleanser Workshop (Parkim Group): This session explored the formulation of micellar-based skincare products, combining chemistry with health-conscious cosmetic innovation.
Cream Workshop (Kale Kimya): Participants gained insights into emulsion science and practical techniques in cream formulation, supported by an industry-leading chemical company.
Cologne Workshop (Rebul): A historical Turkish brand guided students through the cultural and chemical aspects of cologne production, connecting tradition with modern perfumery practices.
